Honorary Senior Minister

J.L. Hall

In Memoriam

Throughout his tenure in ministry, J.L. Hall has fulfilled roles such as: Pastor, church executive, theological scholar, historian, and editor. Born in James, TX, Hall was converted to Christ in 1953 before spending two years in the U.S. Army. He received his ministerial license in 1955 and ordination in 1964. He served pastorates in Ardmore, OK, and Wichita, KS.

While in Wichita he worked as a Secretary/Treasurer of a Kansas Christian District before his election as a District Superintendent, an office he held from 1971 to 1976. During this time he also earned a B.A. at Friends University in Wichita (1961) and an M.A. in English at Emporia State University (1974).

With his training in journalism, a large Christian fellowship's national leadership invited Hall in 1976 to become editor of Word Aflame Publications, located at their headquarters in Hazelwood, MO. In 1982 he became Editor-in-Chief of all publications, a responsibility that includes oversight of the major magazines. In 1980 he organized and began supervision of a Historical Center. Since 1986 he has planned and promoted the biennial symposiums and has served as a member theological societies. Hall published numerous articles and scholarly books. He retired from the World Evangelism Center in 2005 after 30 years of service.

For the last few years of his life, Reverend J.L. Hall lived in an assisted living home in Scottsdale, AZ. On Oct. 28th, 2011, he lost his battle with Alzheimer's disease. J.L. Hall is survived by his wife, Marjorie, and their three children, Gerald, Ron, and Diana.
